Office of Conflicts Counsel

In 1963, in the case of Gideon v. Wainwright, the United States Supreme Court ruled that all people charged with crimes, even those who cannot pay, have the right to a lawyer.

If you are eligible for the services of the Delaware Public Defender's Office, but they are unable to represent you due to a conflict of interest, a lawyer will be assigned by the Office of Conflicts Counsel. This lawyer is called a "conflict attorney" or "conflict counsel."
